What is Rotary?

The Rotary Club is a group of men and women from the Fordingbridge area who meet regularly to discuss how we may help in the community and wider world. All that binds us is a belief in fairness, integrity and international understanding, goodwill and peace.

We organise trips for disadvantaged children, for senior citizens, support pupils at Burgate and other local schools, help with projects such as the Christmas Lights and give our time to help with other community activities. To raise funds for these events we organise the annual Fordingbridge Summer Festival held in the recreation ground on the third Saturday of July. We also organise an annual quiz evening and a biennial model railway exhibition at the Avonway Centre.

Every penny that we raise is used to pay for local projects and other Rotary charities including disaster relief. Internationally our biggest project is a joint venture with Microsoft founder Bill Gates to eliminate polio worldwide, an aim that has almost been achieved.

Most importantly we have lots of fun whilst undertaking this work and enjoy an active social calendar. Most weeks we enjoy a meal together, organise a speaker or go on a visit such as the theatre.

Rotary is a non-religious and non-political organisation.
